Julie Estall

Co-owner and Director

I have recruited in the social care sector since 1999 and for the last 11 years I have specialised in permanent management appointments.

Alongside my co-director Karen, I enjoy working with a team of fantastic colleagues who have helped us develop Bright Selection into a quality-focused consultancy providing long-term solutions for leading care groups.

I left university with a degree in Accountancy and Financial Management and subsequently worked for one of the ‘Big Four’ accountancy firms in an audit role working with local authorities and public sector groups across the UK. Whilst an invaluable experience I realised that I wanted to work in a more client-focused role. Having heard my Dad’s stories over the years of how he enjoyed a long and successful career in recruitment I was keen to give the sector a try for myself.

My recruitment career started in 2001 when I joined Quantica Healthcare. Here I developed a busy locum desk placing social workers before being promoted to Branch Manager and leading a team of consultants covering the UK. Following the sale of the business in 2006 to a larger group I was approached to join a new start up consultancy, Social Care Professionals, where I was responsible for setting up and developing a permanent recruitment desk, working with care providers across the UK. During this time, I forged relationships with some amazing clients and candidates, many of which continue to this day.

In 2011 and after working together for over 10 years, Karen and I took the plunge and set up Bright Selection as our own business.
Now in its sixth year of business, Bright Selection continues to go from strength from strength and I can honestly say I have loved every minute of it. We have a longstanding team who genuinely share our values and who want to work collaboratively with candidates and clients and share the success and results that finding the right match brings. The care sector is ever-changing and I feel lucky to work with inspiring candidates and clients who are committed to enhancing the lives of residents, patients and service users they support.

At Bright, my role is varied and I’m lucky to be able to combine management duties alongside continuing to recruit for key clients in East Anglia. Even after 16 years in recruitment no day is ever the same and I am constantly learning and developing knowledge and skills to keep ahead of the challenges the role can bring.

Outside of work any spare time is spent with my family and growing collection of animals, the latest being our second Labrador puppy. I have also rekindled my love of the gym (becoming a total gym bore) and am starting to play tennis badly after a 15 year break. Both of which means that I can feel less guilty about indulging in eating out and a love of craft Gins!
