Catherine Martin & Karen Hedger attend the Care Providers Network Essex Breakfast event

On the 28th of April Director Karen Hedger & consultant Catherine Martin attended the Care Providers Network breakfast event, which invited various independent businesses owners that provide care for people across the Essex & Suffolk region. Here is Karen’s take on the day:

Interesting morning of debate and learning at Care Providers Network Event. Speakers included Tracey Dickens at Birkett Long Solicitors detailing important regulations for care home managers. We also heard about the value of ‘Mindfulness’ and its growth and recognition in treating depression and anxiety, of which there are local courses running at Colchester Institute. There was a good overview of recent research undertaken by Essex County Council into Care Provider quality showing that Essex care providers are delivering high ratings for being ‘caring and responsive’ and reiterated that key areas for development locally, as identified by CQC, reflect national trends including; medication, leadership, care planning, safeguarding, and staffing levels. There was also had some healthy debate around the idea of “Does increased rate/cost deliver increased quality?” Also really useful guidance and practical tips from Sara Naylor from Ravenhill on ‘Reputation and its value to health and social care businesses’.

Key points; people need to trust you to buy from you, so you need to develop your reputation to ensure you have a presence, and work in partnership with your community and engage with all your key stakeholders.

There were lots of other useful tips that we will also be putting into practice. Really useful morning and plenty to share and action!
