The Perfect Partnership – A Bright placement with Encore

Making the move from the national care provider Barchester Healthcare to new emerging group Encore, part of the Quantum Group, was a big decision but one that Group Operations & Quality Director Izzy Nicholls hasn’t looked back from.

Working closely with Senior Consultant Stephanie White, Izzy was introduced and subsequently secured her position in Encore’s senior management team.

Izzy has joined Encore at an exciting time of development and growth where she is actively involved in all aspects of the business and crucially is setting the standards of quality and values that will underpin the group now, and going forward.

Having previously worked for Barchester as both Operations Support Director and a Regional Director, where she was accountable for over 13 established and new homes, the move to Encore has presented Izzy with an interesting change of responsibilities and some different ways of working.

She is now overseeing the commissioning of three innovative new homes, the third of which is ready to open this May, and is working towards the group’s longer term plan of opening three additional homes per year, reaching a target group size of 20.

In this size of organisation Izzy is able to have strategic input into the development of the business and enjoys the quick decision making process of a flat management structure.

This has meant she can quickly implement new ideas and respond to team initiatives, which has already included setting up a Clinical Advisory Group for home managers and clinical staff and supporting a new indoor greenhouse development for Hamble Heights providing cognitive therapy for residents.

She is also working directly with the team at Quantum Group on the design of homes. Quantum’s unlimited access to building/planning services means it can be creative in its approach to design and respond to research.

An example of this is the group’s Fairmile Grange home in Christchurch which benefits from a doctor’s surgery on site and is one of the few homes in the UK to actively embrace NHS partnership working, receiving four GP sessions a week from the surgery, ensuring all new residents have input into their care planning from the GP, and staff are supported in their clinical development.

Izzy Nicholls involved in conversation Encore

Our Director Karen Hedger, speaking to Care Home Professional about Izzy’s placement, said:

“Our role in working with senior management professionals is to present opportunities that of course match experience and skills, but importantly to ensure that they also match ambition and career goals.

This is supported by our own findings from candidate interviews where 61% of the candidates we spoke with advised their motivation to move was attributed to disillusionment with their current employer/sector, and/or lack of opportunity to progress. Interestingly this took precedence over practical considerations such as financial package and location. Whilst we do receive feedback that financial stability of a company is important it is not necessarily seen that ‘big is best’.

Senior management opportunities within small growing companies offer professionals a rare and an exciting opportunity to join a new group at its inception, making a fundamental difference to future of both the business and the care it delivers, whilst simultaneously allowing for professional growth with the business. Izzy shared that her choice to work with Bright Selection had been based on our understanding of her career objectives, our knowledge of the sector, and our capacity to deliver on what we promise.”
