Karen was delighted to attend Care Roadshow in Leeds this week, meeting up with existing clients and taking the opportunity to make new connections. The event was a chance for local providers to meet with sector suppliers and to develop their knowledge in the CPD sessions. The seminar programme included some leading professionals sharing both experience and insight in their specialist areas of expertise. Covering Person Centred Practice in dementia care, Peer to peer insights and discussion around building a foundation for the future within your workforce. Along with an update from Alison Chilton CQC.
In the ‘Your people, your Future’ session Lauren Lovatt, Deputy Director of Regulation & Quality Improvement, from Barchester, shared some of the tools that they’re using to support employees’ well-being including well-being leads, provision of a Happy App and the importance of knowing your workforce on a personal level. She also highlighted that given that Workforce well-being forms part of the CQC assessment that this should also be a strategic priority for all SLT’s.
Other panellist’s Sarah Mahoney of Community Integrated Care, Claire Leake FCIPD National Care Group Limited and David Glover Caremark Ltd talked around how to support financial well-being and initiatives introduced to such as early access to pay for emergencies, weekly pay runs and in company Well-being funds where staff can access grants. Other areas of innovation focused on supporting women and menopause and engaging with the workforce on what they need to offer person centred initiatives which for some have included offering sabbaticals. It was engaged, ideas packed session with some really useful takeaways for those attending. Its always great to hear of the initiatives. Fraser Myles Rickatson from Care England also provided some useful policy insight along with a personal experience of the impact of well supported care workers.
